The day after Oktoberfest…

We were not so much hung over, just ready to see some more of Munich, so we went on a Dachau Concentration Camp tour. I have been to Dachau before, but this was much more thorough and interesting. I learned a few new things. For instance; after the war over 400 people were tried at Dachau for war crimes. Also, some of the first propaganda speeches were done at beer halls during Oktoberfest and one in particular called Hoffenbrau house we drank in the first night.

Needless to say it was a draining day so we came back to the city and visited the Glockenspiel clock and ate dinner at a German restaurant where we again sat with Italians. Germans like to have people sit together…even at restaurants. The more the merrier. I had some fried meat loaf, with a fried egg on top. It was gross. I have to say I’m not a huge fan of German food.

We had a few hours to kill before leaving for Berlin, so we had a few beers, where we met someone from Seattle….hahha go figure.

We took a night train to Berlin. Peter and I slept in a couchette. It was basically makeshift bunk beds (Peter’s bed was actually two chairs that folded into a bed) with only a curtain to separate us from the hallway. Across from us were some Canadians….we said Eh, they said eh back. We didn’t sleep much. We arrived in Berlin, super tired, but excited.

Man, Dachau is heartbreaking. It's one of the most striking places I've ever been in my life. I can still smell it.
