We arrived in the late afternoon in a Bacharach, where we were staying in a hostel inside of an old castle. Only problem here, the castle sits on top of what New Orleanians would call a mountain, probably about 500 vertical feet up, anyways, the climb was a bit difficult with our packs on, but not too terrible. We met some people on the way to the hostel, I had noticed them at the train station in Amsterdam, so I asked if they were going to the hostel as well, sure enough, they were. We all checked in, took a few pictures of the amazing view from on top the "mountain", and we all headed back down to the city for dinner, then back up AGAIN. This time in the dark, I packed a flashlight, for the trip and when the time came to use it, alas, I had forgotten it in the room. So I improvised and used the LCD screen on our camera for a light, which worked quite well surprisingly. Back to the hostel, we headed straight for the "bar" which also doubles as the cafeteria, we partied it up with our new found friends until the around midnight when they closed.
O, I forgot to mention, while we were eating dinner, we saw a truck driving through town that had just come from the vineyards, it was carrying a shitton of what I would guess were Riesling grapes, since that’s what this town, and this area, are famous for. I was sad that we couldn't make wine this year since right now is the time for harvest, but that sadness didn't last long, there’s always next year.
On a side note, apparently, Rick Steves is quite popular around these parts, people have brought his name up on at least 5 different occasions.

For lack of a better WTF I give you this:

Hey you crazy travelers,
Today is the 50th anniversary of the Russian satellite, Sputnik, being launched into outer space. You ask,"What the hell does that have to do with us?" Well, my dear children, sputnik in Russian means 'fellow traveler', so you are each a sputnik to the other.
Dad, you're awesome.
Glad you guys are in Deutscheland. If anyone tries to get you to go into some scary ass warehouse place with the promise of free sex with hot people and maybe a killer party, don't go. It's probably the beginning of Hostel Part 3.
I'm just saying....
Very cool, Chantelle and I stayed at the exact same castle! I even remember we had a room up some old broken stairs which were tough to negotiate in the dark (and with a few beers in me).
